A Scottsdale Getaway: Royal Palms Resort & Spa

DSC05332.jpg

When I booked our stay at the Royal Palms Resort & Spa through AMEX Travels I had somewhat high expectations but if I’m being honest I thought the property was going to be a tad outdated. I’m usually a mid-century modern, clean white space kind of gal, and from the online photos, Royal Palm Springs looked like the opposite of my aesthetic. And I was right — the aesthetic was totally different than what I’m typically drawn to but wow, it was absolutely stunning in its own way!

The property

Upon arrival, we immediately dropped our bags off (early check-in at 12 pm - thank you, AMEX!) and walked the property. My eyes were immediately drawn to the incredible landscaping. Sometimes I wonder if I’m turning into a 55-year-old woman that spends her free time at Home Depot and admiring people’s lawns. Anyways, back to Royal Palm Springs’ landscaping — I was so in love. Cacti, fresh flowers, mango trees, and so many plants throughout that it felt like I was in a botanical garden. I loved waking up in the morning and going on a 1-mile walk throughout the property admiring the sun wake-up the birds and find new flowers I had somehow missed the day before.

The Rooms

We stayed in a small little casita type room with our own private entrance. Sadly, I didn’t take any photos of our room, but you can see similar ones here. We were an end unit and had the sweetest little patio. The only downside was instead of a large tub there was just a walk-in shower. Don’t get me wrong, there is nothing wrong with a huge shower it was just that since I was on vacay I had been daydreaming about taking a long bubble bath one of the nights. Otherwise, the room was great. The beds were so comfy and the linens were luxurious (I actually tried to figure out where they were from because I loved them so much).

The Pool

When trying to find a place to stay for our Scottsdale vacation I knew I wanted to stay at a property with great outdoor spaces. Although I’m typically not a lay by the pool kind of person, I absolutely loved lounging in the late mornings in a shaded corner at Royal Palms. Michael was usually on a long morning bike ride, so that was a perfect time for me to grab my book and relax outside before the temperatures got too high. The staff was friendly, always made sure I had water, and the views of Camelback Mountain were gorgeous.

T. Cooks Restaurant

Not going to lie, one of my favorite parts of our stay with Royal Palms Resort and Spa was the breakfast. Who doesn’t love a hearty breakfast with a view? Because we booked our stay with our AMEX Platinum (this isn’t sponsored, I’m just always so amazed by all of the perks we get with it) we had $60/day towards breakfast or room service complimentary. So, of course, Michael decided to order 2+ meals a day at breakfast, haha. I tried something new most days, but my favorite dish was their veggie omelet with a side of fresh fruit. The coffee was subpar, but everything else was absolutely delicious.

We had 4 days at Royal Palms Resort out of the full week we were traveling throughout Arizona and besides hiking through Sedona, this was my favorite part of our trip. It felt like a space where we could truly relax and escape our busy city lives in Atlanta. The property invites you to sit down, relax, and just be present. One of the nights we sat outside and watched the sunset with amazing red wine and chatted for hours.

Definitely would go back and highly recommend this resort if you’re in Scottsdale!
