A Week at Vakkaru Maldives

The Maldives is one of those few places that blow your expectations out of the water. One couldn't possibly dream up a paradise as gorgeous as these 1,100+ islands in the middle of the Indian Ocean. The amazing teal colored water, palm trees perfectly placed on gorgeous islands, fresh fish caught daily, and sunshine 365 days of the year -- it's pure bliss.

We were extremely fortunate with the opportunity to stay at Vakkaru Maldives, a new resort that opened in late 2017 in the Baa Toll area of the Maldives. Situated in the UNESCO Biosphere, Vakkaru Maldives provides a unique geographical location to its guest. Many people looking for the perfect diving and water activities travel specifically to this area of Maldives.

This new luxury resort in the Maldives provides its guest with a luxury experience, yet down to earth feel. After a few days at Vakkaru, you feel like you're apart of the family and it's your second home (a very beautiful one at that). We were blown away by the exceptional service, attention to detail, and hospitality provided during our week with the Vakkaru family.

Recommended Activities

Snorkeling outside your water villa -- grab some gear and swim a few meters to find the most colorful and exotic fish in the ocean
Take a day trip to a local island
Book the Coconut Spa Treatment
Sunset cruise (maybe you'll spot a few dolphins!)
Parasailing on a sunny day
Grab a fresh coconut and lay by the beach
Scuba diving excursion

Upon arrival to Malé, we were greeted outside of the arrival terminal by Wareesa and Zufna from Vakkaru and they were just as excited to see us as we were them. We had been waiting in the line for Passport Control for quite sometime and were exhausted from the long travels. Their energy and excitement when greeting us was the perfect start to remind us that we were about to enter paradise.

We were met by our Butler, Junaid, at the next airport and he immediately gave us a wonderful impression and we felt like we'd be in great hands the rest of the week (which we were right!). Upon arrival at Vakkaru the staff greeted us excitedly with champagne and it all felt like a dream.

Looking back on this trip, I'm still wondering if it was a dream?

The Villas

Each villa has its own unique flare. We stayed in an overwater villa that was absolutely breathtaking. The rooms are decorated with authentic art from local islands -- I love that Vakkaru incorporates so much of the culture in the villas.

All villas are equipped with one indoor rain shower and outdoor shower. Ours overlooked the Indian Ocean and had complete privacy. The bathroom were also equipped with everything you could need and more, from local soaps and toiletries to a gigantic tub that could fit three of me.

I must admit that I thought sleeping in an over water villa would make me sea sick or I would feel uneasy knowing the ocean was directly under me. But listening to the subtle sound of the waves and waking up to these views was a truly priceless experience

The Food

Food is the way to my heart. Isn't that the way to any good person's heart?

I was thrilled to wake-up each morning not just for the amazing views of the gorgeous water, but the breakfast buffet that awaited us each day. You guys, this is what dreams are made of. Think homemade baked croissants, fresh caught tuna, made-to-order omelettes, and a fruit bowl filled with fresh mango, pineapple and passion fruit. I'm drooling just writing about it.

For being such a new resort, Vakkaru has done an amazing job providing deliciously healthy foods that don't get boring after 7 days. Honestly, I could eat Vakkaru's food for the rest of my life and never need anything else. The chef's were incredible at remembering our allergies and specializing certain dishes to our liking. Also, the wine and cocktail choices paired exceptionally with each dish. Who knew you could be in the middle of the ocean and have the best food of your life?

If you follow me on Instagram, than you know I took way too many photos during my time at Vakkaru Maldives. Honestly, every thing was so picture perfect, I didn't want to miss an opportunity.

When searching for a "dream vacation" spot, I really don't see how it could get much better than the Maldives. We started 2018 with the best vacation I could have dreamt up, and I'm not sure if it can get much better than this.
